MINUTES Page 14 <br />City of San Leandro Ciry Council, San Leandro Hillside Geologic Hazard Abatement District, and San Leandro <br />Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-July 20, 2009 <br />most riders would not mind paying for the service. He indicated that next year, he would be <br />amenable to considering ways to raise revenue for the Shuttle. <br />Councilmember Stephens commented that he attended Device Moughon's farewell reception; <br />the San Leandro Education Foundation fundraiser at the Gregory's home; and the Day at the <br />Casa. <br />Councilmember Souza commented that she attended the Bay Trail Slough Bridge <br />groundbreaking. She announced that July is National Recreation and Parks Month, and San <br />Leandro will celebrate by holding different events each week in July. The first week was <br />camping, the second week was a luau, and this week will be kite flying. She concurred with <br />Councilmember Prola's comments regarding the Coffee Connection, stating that the group is <br />one of the Chamber's liveliest, and has speakers lined up a year in advance. <br />Councilmember Gregory commented that he attended an ABAG meeting called The Forum, <br />at which Dr. Richard Jackson spoke on the topic of healthy cities. He requested that tonight's <br />meeting be adjourned in memory of Florence Silva, mother of Tom Silva. Councilmember <br />Gregory announced there will be a blood drive on Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m. at the <br />Main Library. <br />Mayor Santos commented that the City Manager's Office staff has been reduced by five <br />employees in the past eight years. He called Bill Lockyer "The Father of the Bay Trail," and <br />hoped the slough bridge could be named for him. Mayor Santos commented that he is still <br />receiving phone calls about San Leandro Hospital, and he suggested keeping the hospital's <br />emergency room open until a measure can be placed on the ballot. Mayor Santos commented <br />on a recent report showing San Leandro's low crime rate, and on its exceptional public safety <br />personnel. Mayor Santos announced that tonight's meeting would be adjourned in memory of <br />Marie Underwood; Officer Dan Niemi; Lisl Schaffner; Florence Ann Silva; and Brandan <br />Allan Stark, who passed away at age 22, after spending his final years at the George Mark <br />Children's House. <br />13.
