CITY COUNCIL REPORTS <br /> <br /> <br />A.Reports on Intergovernmental Agencies <br /> <br />Councilmember Prola reported on the September 9th meeting of the Alameda County <br />Mosquito Abatement District Board. The first positive mosquito pool was found in the <br />Livermore area; however, there has been an overall decline in West Nile Virus activity, <br />as well as an overall decline in mosquito activity. Councilmember Prola also reported <br />th <br />on the September 17 AC Transit meeting held at Bayfair Center regarding the <br />proposed bus route changes. <br /> <br />Councilmember Gregory reported on a meeting of the Alameda County Fire <br />Commission. The Commission received reports on the cost of fighting wildfires this <br />season; the new Fire Department headquarters; the depand the <br />possible merger with Union City and Newark. Councilmember Gregory reported that <br />Chief Gilbert has been selected as head of Fire Mutual Aid for Region II of the <br />California Office of Emergency Services. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos reported on the Water Task Force meeting held during the League of <br />California Cities Annual Conference in San Jose. The Task Force is concluding its <br />work, and should have a draft report completed by next month. <br /> <br /> <br />B.Reports on Conferences and Seminars <br /> <br />Councilmember Souza reported that she attended the League of California Cities <br />Annual Conference. She attended sessions on he Role of the City Council in <br />Litigation and abandoned residential property program, and visited a <br />booth of a <br />recycle bags <br />commented that the voting process was quick. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Starosciak also attended the League Annual Conference, and she reported <br />on the keynote speechTransforming Cities Using Social Media. <br />examples of how other cities are utilizing various social technologies, such as Twitter <br />and Facebook, to engage the community. Vice Mayor Starosciak commented on the <br />City of Chula Vista the many things they are doing to promote a <br />healthy and active community. She asked a question about a dog park that spawned a <br />lot of conversation. Vice Mayor Starosciak passed on a brochure about the Emeryville <br />Center of Community Life, which is a planned K-12 learning community that will also <br />function as an afterschool and weekend education community center.
