ACTION ITEMS Public comments are limited to 3 minutes per speaker per item, subject to adjustment by the Mayor. A.Report on Participation in Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) Multi- Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (provides an overview of the participation in the Plan and review of mitigation strategies the City has identified for future disasters). Community Relations Representative Kathy Ornelas gave a PowerPoint presentation, Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, and the advantages to participating with ABAG on the development of a multi-jurisdictional plan. Ms. Ornelas described the types of natural disasters that would be addressed by the Multi-Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, and the information available on A list of priorities is being established for mitigating the impacts of future disasters, which San Leandro can accept or change based on its jurisdictional needs. Ms. Ornelas responded to questions from the Council. Councilmember Prola expressed concern about the effects of liquefaction in areas of San Leandro. Councilmember Gregory pointed to the important role played by the faith-based community during Hurricane Katrina. He suggested the City perform outreach to the local faith-based community, and seek their help in providing assistance during a disaster. Mayor Santos suggested having disaster training for the Council. Ms. Ornelas indicated that the Council will participate in a disaster exercise to be held at the new Senior Center. She noted that agencies responsible for emergency shelter services have already begun outreach to the faith community. Councilmember Gregory suggested that the City could assist in this effort.
