OUTREACH OPTIONS FOR EDUCATING VOTERS <br />ABOUT RANKED-CHOICE VOTING IN ALAMEDA COUNTY <br />During 2010 we expect to engage in extensive voter-education outreach to explain to <br />voters how Ranked-Choice Voting works. Some of the staples of this effort will be: <br />- Public Presentations -Registrar of Voters staff in concert with League of <br />Women Voters will explain how Ranked-Choice Voting works at meetings <br />with community groups, at senior centers, centers for the disabled and at <br />gatherings of Spanish-language, Chinese-language and other non-English- <br />speaking voters. <br />- Public Service Announcements -The Registrar of Voters, League of Women <br />Voters and other interested parties will collaborate on putting together public <br />service announcements for television (including Spanish-language and <br />Chinese-language stations) and radio (non-English stations included). <br />- Easy-to-Read Explanations of RCV will also be incorporated in voting <br />materials -Step-by-step instructions about how to vote using RCV will be <br />included in the pages of all Sample Ballots and as Inserts included with <br />Vote-By-Mail ballots issued to voters. <br />Registrar of Voters and League of Women Voters will also collaborate on a number of <br />educational pieces to help in voter education outreach. These will include: <br />- Tri-fold brochure, to be distributed to community groups and by Alameda <br />County and associated organizations for quick, easy explanation of how <br />RCV works. <br />- Post-Card Mailer (5 by 7) - Could be mailed to the approximately 300,000 <br />registered voters in our three RCV cities -Berkeley, Oakland and San <br />Leandro - a month before the November 2010 election. <br />- Flash Media presentation - a simple, visually interesting explanation of RCV <br />that will be available on Alameda County website and available for <br />distribution to community groups to help in educating voters about RCV. <br />Could also be sent to blogs, voter education sites, online and traditional <br />media sties to help us get the word out about how RCV works. Could be <br />used at Registrar, League of Women Voters public presentations. <br />- Short video on how RCV works -Alameda County will produce a short video <br />showing how RCV works. Video will be pitched to television stations to be <br />played as public service announcement and included as visual in news <br />stories. Could be used at public presentations to community groups to <br />explain how RCV works. <br />
