Facilities and Transportation Committee 5 November lo, 1009
5. Committee Member Comments
Councilmember Reed announced that she received an e-mail from Ken Jung regarding
nuisance "donuts" at some locations, resulting in a vehicle landing in a house. Keith's
focused efforts are where the collisions occur and will deal with them on a priority basis.
Councilmember Reed addressed the speed signs on .150th Avenue, indicating that the
median sign is knocked down and the lights are out. Reh-Lin assured that the sign has
been fixed and the lights are now on.
Another issue Councilmember Reed addressed is the red light cameras at various
intersections. She wanted to know how it was funded and if they are permanent. Steve
replied that the red light camera program is funded by the General Fund. Keith said
drivers are aware of the cameras, which changes their behavior when approaching and
entering the intersection. Eventually, the cameras can be moved to another location.
Councilmember Reed informed the Committee of the issue with pedestrian crosswalk
lights near the Senior Center. Residents of Eden Lodge are complaining that the light
changes too quickly and they don't have enough time to cross the street. Keith and Reh-
Lin will look into the timing of those lights and get some count-downs at that location.
Keith reiterated the need for a Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, saying that
this concern could be an issue for the Advisory Committee to work on. Eden Lodge
residents could also be part of the Advisory Committee.
Keith advised this Committee that next fiscal year, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Education
Program that is funded by Measure B and OTS will be extended to seniors.
b. Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 5:25 p.m.
