Schedule consideration of the draft Smoking Ordinance. <br />Councilmember Souza commented on the public input on the Smoking <br />Ordinance, and the need to acknowledge the comments from the Rental <br />Home Owners Association. She asked whether there has been any <br />notification or outreach to teachers, who may be affected by the ordinance's <br />smoking restriction near schools. <br />By consensus, the City Council approved this recommendation. <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMNII;NTS <br />Councilmember Souza encouraged everyone to attend the grand opening of the Washington <br />Manor Middle School gymnasium on Thursday. She attended the crime awareness program <br />by the Police Department, and expressed appreciation for their community outreach. <br />Councilmember Reed commented that she attended the Fire Ops 101 program by the Fire <br />Department, and found it eye-opening. She also attended the Veterans Day celebration and <br />the full and lively grand opening of the Bal Theater. <br />Vice Mayor Starosciak thanked the Police Department and Citizens for a Safer San Leandro <br />for the crime prevention town hall meeting. She also attended the reopening of the Bancroft <br />Dental Plaza, and the tour of Redwood City's Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) and <br />Downtown Revitalization program. <br />Councilmember Prola commented that he attended Redwood City's TOD tour; the League of <br />Women Voters forum on a California Constitutional Convention; the Chamber of Commerce <br />Government Affairs Committee meeting; the Recreation and Parks Commission's community <br />meeting at the Library to gather input on the use of Measure WW funds; the Veterans Day <br />Flag Raising; Coffee with the Mayor; the grand opening of the Bal Theater; the Citizens for a <br />Safer San Leandro and Police Department meeting; and the Youth Advisory Commission <br />Mixer. <br />Councilmember Stephens commented that he attended the Veterans Day Celebration and the <br />CASBO (California Association of School Business Officials) CBO Symposium in <br />Monterey. He reported on presentations on Ca1PERS/Ca1STRS, and the State's economic <br />outlook. <br />Councilmember Gregory commented that he successfully averted the swine flu through the <br />use of Tamiflu, but unfortunately missed the Redwood City tour. He attended the Fire Ops <br />101, which he stated was a great hands-on way to learn about the firefighting profession. <br />Mayor Santos thanked Councilmember Stephens for presenting him with the National <br />Defense Medal at the Veterans Day Flag Raising. He concurred with Councilmember Prola <br />that the City cannot cut its budget and maintain services without raising revenue. In response <br />
