MINL7TES Page 15 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-December 7, 2009 <br />Thanksgiving dinner to the homeless at a Bancroft Avenue church, and he thanked Chuck and <br />Suzanne Pershing for hosting the event and supplying the turkeys. <br />Councilmember Stephens complimented staff on the Tree Lighting Ceremony and the <br />Downtown Business Association for the "It's a Wonderful Night" event. <br />Councilmember Souza thanked the Recreation and Human Services staff for the <br />Thanksgiving senior luncheon and the Tree Lighting; the Human Resources staff for the <br />Service Awards dinner; and the Chamber for its multi-cultural holiday mixer. <br />Councilmember Souza commented on the community food pantry at All Saints Episcopal <br />Church at which she volunteers, noting that members of the community other than church <br />members also volunteer there. <br />Councilmember Gregory thanked Recreation and Human Services Director Carolyn <br />Knudtson and her staff for the Tree Lighting, and for bringing the HEAL program to San <br />Leandro. He expressed pride in his Council colleagues, commenting that the City has done an <br />excellent job of promoting health related initiatives. <br />Mayor Santos commented on December 7, 1941, which President Franklin D. Roosevelt <br />proclaimed as "a date which will live in infamy." Mayor Santos received a letter from Mayor <br />Akiba of Hiroshima, who is a fellow member of Mayors for Peace, comprised of city mayors <br />from around the world who are working toward the abolishment of nuclear weapons. Mayor <br />Santos adjourned the meeting in memory of the victims of Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima and <br />Nagasaki. <br />13.
