Redevelopment Agency Of The City Of San Leandro
v
,~, ,~ ~ - r: R d~,v ~ ~en ~ ~ Ftnanctal Transactions Report
.' ~ . _ w _ ~ ~ . ~~~~~~ ...',. ~~:~~
Achievement Information (Unaudited)
exist in the West San Leandro industrial area. i
In partnership with the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce, the Agency began {
work on a strategy for the industrial area. In FY 2008-09, meetings were held in
five industrial areas (Adams, Davis/Doolittle, Fairway/Catalina,
Washington/Alvarado, and Kaiser) to determine how the Agency can best serve
industrial businesses. ~
The Agency implemented an Industrial Competitiveness Grant program to provide
technical assistance as well as funding for capital improvements which assist
manufacturers and other industrial businesses in increasing energy efficiencies,
thereby reducing their costs. This not only meets the City goal of green house gas
emissions reduction, but also assists businesses in remaining competitive.
Construction was completed on the Doolittle Drive/Airport Gateway streetscape
enhancement project which included new landscaping, improvements to existing
medians, new streetlights, the placement of monuments to mark city entries and
the relocation of traffic signals on Doolittle Drive from Davis Street north to 98th
Avenue in Oakland.
In May 2009, the Agency approved the purchase of 2512 Davis Street, a parcel
required for the development of Eden Road. The development of Eden Road is
intended to improve traffic circulation at the Davis/Doolittle intersection.
Nor-Cal Supply, an independently owned and operated metal fabrication business
on Doolittle Drive, completed a successful fagade improvement which included the
installation of galvanized steel gutters, painting of the entire building with a four
color scheme, and new signage and lighting. The Agency assisted with the design
and contributed to this project.
The Agency assisted with the design of improvements to the exterior of the San
Leandro Car Wash on MacArthur Boulevard which included new paint, signage :
and landscaping. The property owner has painted the building and demolished the
old signage without financial assistance from the Agency.
In 2008-09 the Agency provided $140,000 in funding for the San Leandro LINKS
shuttle which transports employees between industrial businesses and the
Downtown San Leandro BART Station. Ridership of the shuttle continues to be
strong. Grants have been secured for the next three fiscal years which will result
in a decrease to Agency contribution.
Achievement Information (Unaudited) Page 5 12/17/2009
