MINUTES Page 9 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting~Ianuary 4, 2010 <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Councilmembers wished everyone a Happy New Year. <br />Councilmember Prola commented that he participated in the Davis Street holiday gift and <br />food basket giveaway, In response to a news article on the reduction in the City's crime rate, <br />Councilmember Prola stated that he believed the reduction in crime was at least in part due to <br />the increase in sworn police officers, and spoke to the need for the City must fmd a way to <br />increase revenues to maintain the level of sworn officers. Councilmember Prola expressed <br />appreciation to Public Works for erecting a large sign at the Marina reminding boaters about <br />the boat launch ramp fee, and he requested information on the number of tickets that have <br />been issued, and whether regular patrol is planned. He reported that a countersuit has been <br />filed by Eden Township Healthcare District against Sutter Health to try to save the San <br />Leandro Hospital acute care unit and emergency room. <br />Councilmember Reed commented that this is her one-year anniversary on the Council, and <br />she looks forward to the next three. <br />Mayor Santos commented on the Memorandum of Understanding between the Eden <br />Township Healthcare District and Sutter Health, and he stated that if the matter cannot be <br />resolved, San Leandro Hospital could close on July 1. <br />Mayor Santos announced that tonight's meeting would be adjourned in memory of City <br />Manager Emeritus Wes McClure, who was San Leandro's City Manager from 1948-1976. <br />Mayor Santos noted that the City has lost two "giants" this year, with the passing of Mayor <br />Emeritus Jack Maltester and City Manager Emeritus Wes McClure, and both men would be <br />mentioned in the upcoming State of the City address. He commented on City Manager <br />McClure's instrumental role in the development at the Marina. <br />13.
