IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />ORDINANCE NO.2010- (1055) <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />AMENDING ARTICLE 1, CHAPTER 1-11 OF THE SAN LEANDRO MUNICIPAL CODE TO <br />CHANGE THE DATE OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION <br />TO PROVIDE FOR CONSOLIDATION <br />WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION <br />WHEREAS, Article VI, Section 610 of the Charter of the City of San Leandro provides that <br />the City Council can by ordinance provide for the method of conducting municipal elections; and <br />WHEREAS, the General Municipal Election for the City of San Leandro is consolidated <br />with the Statewide Primary Election, held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in June of <br />even-numbered years; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council, on January 19, 2010, approved the use of Ranked Choice <br />Voting for the City of San Leandro General Municipal Election, to be held on November 2, 2010; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, to conduct the City's General Municipal Election using Ranked Choice Voting <br />on November 2, 2010, the election date must be changed and the registered voters of the City <br />notified of the change. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, The City Council of the City of San Leandro does ordain as follows: <br />SECTION 1. AMENDMENT OF CODE. Title 1, Chapter 1-ll of the San Leandro <br />Municipal Code is hereby repealed and reenacted as follows: <br />1- ll -100 DATE OF GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION. <br />(a) The General Municipal Election of the City of San Leandro for the year 2010 shall <br />be consolidated with the Statewide General Election to be conducted on November <br />2, 2010. <br />(b) Future General Municipal Elections of the City of San Leandro shall be <br />consolidated with the Statewide General Election to be conducted the first Tuesday <br />after the first Monday in November of each even-numbered year. <br />1-11-105 TERM OF OFFICE. <br />Pursuant to Charter Section 235, the term of office for those persons elected to City offices <br />shall commence on January 1 following the election. <br />SECTION 2. NOTIFICATION TO VOTERS. Notification to voters of the change in <br />the election date shall be made within 30 days of the effective date of this ordinance, and shall <br />include publication of at least one announcement in the City's official newspaper, posting of the <br />
