February 2, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. at John Muir Middle School. The Board
will make their final decision regarding budget reductions (required for
the Second Interim Report), noting that the Board must make budget
cut decisions at the February 23 meeting.
4. Discussion Regarding Future City Council and School Board Joint Work
Session
It was noted that in previous years joint sessions were scheduled on a
Monday or Tuesday in February; however, because of the pressing budget
situation this year and short timeline, it was decided to meet in April, after
the District's spring break (which is the first week of the month).
The committee discussed suggested topics for that meeting that included
school-based health care centers, raised by Councilmember Gregory, and the
Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Corridor proposal raised by Board member Hague.
Councilmember Gregory reported that with regards to the BRT, nothing has
been finalized, adding that there will be a Bicycle Advisory Committee
meeting on February 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the Helen Lawrence South Offices at
the City Hall where there will be an update on the project process and
schedule of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. City Manager Hollister,
suggested having an update on the school crossing guards and School
Resource Officers. (SRO).
5. PUBLIC COMMENTS
None
6. COMMITTEE COMMENTS
Board member Mack-Rose hoped that all of the principals were "on
board" with the census activities planned. Washington Elementary
school will be having a "Rock and Roll" in February and a puppet show
is planned. Board member Mack-Rose reemphasized the importance of
effectively communicating to the community that the City and District
are being fiscally responsible and have the same needs.
Councilmember Gregory stated that there will be a City Disaster Plan
training workshop on January 25. He passed on the City's
Management Operations Plan to Interim Superintendent Cathey to
review. City Manager Hollister would like to have the City and District
participate in joint emergency preparedness exercises, adding that the
City will be attending a California state training, which is open to city
officials free of charge. He will check to see if the training is open to
school officials.
4
