CITY OF SAN LEANDRO
STAFF REPORT
DATE:
TO:
FROM:
BY:
March 15, 2010
Stephen Hollister, City Manager
Lianne Marshall, Assistant City Manager~.-
APPROVED AND
FORWARDED
TO CITY COUNCIL
e- :~~~
Stephen Hollister
City Manager
Kathy Ornelas, Community Relations Representative'~/~
SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
RESOLUTION TERMINATING A LOCAL EMERGENCY WITHIN THE CITY OF SAN
LEANDRO DUE TO THE THREAT TO THE PUBLIC HEALTH FROM THE H1N1 VIRUS
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
On November 11, 2009, the City Council adopted Resolution 2009-153, which declared a local
emergency in San Leandro due to the public health risk from the H1N1 Influenza epidemic,
which was widespread throughout Alameda County and California at that time. The status of the
declaration has been reviewed by the City Council at each subsequent City Council meeting as
required by the City's Municipal Code and State law.
Information has been received that the California Department of Health has determined that the
cases of H1N1 Influenza Virus have declined to a sporadic level in the state. Additionally, the
County of Alameda has suspended its local emergency proclamation.
Therefore, staff recommends that the City Council, in accordance with San Leandro Municipal
Code Section 3-4-124, by Resolution, terminate the Declaration of a Local Emergency in San
Leandro related to the H1N1 Influenza Virus for the 2009-2010 flu season.
CONCLUSION
Staff recommends that City Council, by Resolution, terminate the existing Declaration of a Local
Emergency related to the H1N1 Influenza Virus.
