Hollister
City Manager
BY: Kenneth Joseph, City Engin er `
Engineering and Transportati n Departure
SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPROVE PLANS AND
SPECIFICATIONS AND CALL FOR BIDS FOR THE TOYON PARK PLAYGROUND
SITEWORK.
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends authorizing the City. Manager to approve plans and specifications and call for
bids on the subject project.
BACKGROUND
Toyon Park has not had a children's playground since the reconstruction of Thomas Jefferson
School. The Toyon Park playground is one of the projects the City would like to undertake using
East Bay Regional Park District's (District) Measure WW grant funding. The District is
currently reviewing our application.
Recently, the non-profit organization KaBOOM!, approached the City as a potential location for
one of its community designed, privately sponsored, and community built playgrounds. As a
result of discussions with KABOOM!, Council authorized the City Manager to sign a Letter of
Intent to partner with KaBOOM! to design and construct a playground at Toyon Park.
The City is one of the applicants in a competitive process for KaBOOM! projects. If this project
proposal is successful, there will be a rapid project timeline, and the playground may need to be
constructed by late August. However, prior to playground construction, the City is required to
construct site improvements where the play equipment will be placed.
