MINUTES Page 13 City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-May 3, 2010 Councilmember Stephens thanked Vice Mayor Starosciak for the fine job she did this year. On the County's proposal to remove eucalyptus trees bordering San Leandro Creek, and the May 19 community meeting scheduled to discuss the proposal, Councilmember Stephens commented that the program must be carefully analyzed. He attended a Joint Fremont City Council and Fremont School Board meeting, and reported that the City of Fremont is proposing to ban Styrofoam takeout containers. Councilmember Stephens commented on the directional traffic sign at the end of Joaquin, which detracts from the beauty of the new Plaza, and on the Taste of San Leandro event. Councilmember Souza commented that she attended the Taste of San Leandro; the Newark Fire Department's 100-year anniversary and change of command; and the well-organized compost giveaway. She added her comments regarding the eucalyptus trees in San Leandro Creek, and noted that the Downtown Farmers Market will start up again this Wednesday. Councilmember Gregory commented on the Newark Fire Department event, the Bike San Leandro event, and the upcoming Downtown Farmers Market. Mayor Santos reported that he attended the San Leandro Players production of "Dial M for Murder" and a recent meeting of the Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority (ACTIA). Mayor Santos commented on the huge liabilities faced by cities and states from their retirement programs. Mayor Santos announced that tonight's meeting would be adjourned in memory of Ted Taylor; and in memory of Charles Kuruc, who was a history teacher at San Leandro High School. 12.
