MINUTES Page 13 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-May 3, 2010 <br />Councilmember Stephens thanked Vice Mayor Starosciak for the fine job she did this year. <br />On the County's proposal to remove eucalyptus trees bordering San Leandro Creek, and the <br />May 19 community meeting scheduled to discuss the proposal, Councilmember Stephens <br />commented that the program must be carefully analyzed. He attended a Joint Fremont City <br />Council and Fremont School Board meeting, and reported that the City of Fremont is <br />proposing to ban Styrofoam takeout containers. Councilmember Stephens commented on the <br />directional traffic sign at the end of Joaquin, which detracts from the beauty of the new Plaza, <br />and on the Taste of San Leandro event. <br />Councilmember Souza commented that she attended the Taste of San Leandro; the Newark <br />Fire Department's 100-year anniversary and change of command; and the well-organized <br />compost giveaway. She added her comments regarding the eucalyptus trees in San Leandro <br />Creek, and noted that the Downtown Farmers Market will start up again this Wednesday. <br />Councilmember Gregory commented on the Newark Fire Department event, the Bike San <br />Leandro event, and the upcoming Downtown Farmers Market. <br />Mayor Santos reported that he attended the San Leandro Players production of "Dial M for <br />Murder" and a recent meeting of the Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority <br />(ACTIA). Mayor Santos commented on the huge liabilities faced by cities and states from <br />their retirement programs. Mayor Santos announced that tonight's meeting would be <br />adjourned in memory of Ted Taylor; and in memory of Charles Kuruc, who was a history <br />teacher at San Leandro High School. <br />12.
