Building Lighting <br />Lighting under canopy blends with <br />architecture and illuminates <br />storefront. <br />Wall mounted lighting illuminates <br />building sign. <br /> <br />Building lighting. Exterior building <br />lighting can not only increase safety <br />around the structure, but can con- <br />tribute to a more attractive retail en- <br />vironment. Lighting should be suf- <br />ficient to allow for easy pedestrian <br />navigation and recognition from the <br />street without creating overlit areas <br />with excessive glare. <br />Lighting fixture materials and <br />color should be consistent with <br />building architecture. Shielded light <br />sources are generally preferred, un- <br />less aspecific architectural lighting <br />effect is desired. Lighting should be <br />designed to enhance the effectiveness <br />of architecture and signage, adding <br />romance and vitality throughout the <br />downtown at night. <br />Avoid using high-glare industrial <br />style lighting (such as "wall pack" <br />lighting). While these fixtures are an <br />inexpensive way to light up dark <br />areas, these fixtures create glare.
