not be needed if dedicated bike lane is provided. There was also
concern about how the bike route interfaces with traffic at intersec-
tions, particularly near Superior Avenue and MacArthur. Avery
confusing intersection for bicyclists (see signal comments below).
Also, there was concern that the bike lane disappears in the north
area. People seem to want a dedicated bike lane wherever possible.
Advertise Redevelopment Area: One woman was very interested in
having signs advertising the redevelopment effort. She wanted to
be sure we did this plan, and didn't just put it on a shelf. Most
people felt that three years was a long time to wait. (Three years to
start the less expensive phases and maybe ten years or so to com-
plete the entire project). Several people asked for our tax incre-
ment projections (sent) to understand funding limitations.
CALTRANS Meeting: Many people asked for a meeting with
CALTRANS so they could get CALTRANS to improve their land-
scaping. The plan is to meet with CALTRANS once we had a draft
plan, but people felt this was not good enough. They want some-
thing done now.
Truck Route: Trucks coming off the freeway and using residential
streets is seen as a big problem in this area. It was noted that the
no right turn on Dowling from the freeway offramp will help this
problem as trucks tend to turn there now.
Southern Section/Pedestrian Access: Create or enhance a nice
pedestrian access point from the Glenn area into the commercial
site at Evergreen Nursery.
Bridge and MacArthur: This area generated the most discussion.
No one was in favor of closing the street. However, everyone
agreed that something needed to be done to stop the speeders
traveling south on MacArthur from cutting through to Estudillo by
using Bridge Street. Attention centered around limiting speed and
turning movement. It was pointed out that proposed bulb-outs
will slow down cars making the right turn onto Bridge. People
really liked that. It was also requested that some sort of raised
grade at the intersection be considered, texture and look that also
will encourage reduced speed in making that turn. Speed bumps
for Bridge were discussed but discarded. Prohibiting right turns
onto Bridge was also discussed, and was felt to have some merit if
the other options (bulb-outs and raised surface) do not work.
Bridge and Collier: Four people that live at this intersection want a
four-way stop here to slow traffic. They say near-accidents happen
every day at this corner.
Estudillo and Collier: This intersection was raised as a real prob-
lem. People found it impossible to make a left onto Estudillo from
Collier due to the backup at the signal on MacArthur and Estudillo.
One suggestion was a traffic signal further west on Estudillo to
allow a break that might assist this turning movement.
Estudillo and MacArthur: There was some concern that people
traveling south on MacArthur may need to make a U-Turn at this
intersection. Not being able to make a U-Turn, they pointed out,
will have traffic impacts to Bridge and Collier. Several people felt
information should be gathered regarding how many people make
this turn now (at Estudillo and Collier) in ordE"r to understand the
impact the project might have.
- A5 -
