- Noise! Boom box at Giant Burger.
- Need left turn light here (at Dutton) from MacArthur to
Dutton.
- Yes B, but no housing (on Evergreen site).
- More pedestrian crossings (needed).
- (No) housing on Evergreen.
- No housing.
- No housing.
- No housing.
- Evergreen Site: retail only and/or park area (the green kind).
- Eliminate center median and have diagonal parking on west
side.
- Re: parallel parking -Will traffic flow be stopped by people in
the act of parking. Parallel is my first choice, but if' flow is a
problem then get angled.
- (Illegal) left hand turn over double yellow (centerline paint
striping) a concern.
- (Closing Bridge Ave for parking court) would uglify Estudillo
area and make it difficult to exit onto MacArthur.
- Leave out bike lane.
- (Closing Bridge Ave for parking court) -Residents would be
trapped; difficult to exit neighborhood from Estudillo. Parking
would look ugly too.
- Need a way to park going south on Estudillo from Bayo Vista
and turning right on MacArthur.
- Sketch: Incorporate curve and corner lot at south by Joaquin.
- Use redevelopment to eminent domain trailer park.
Community Workshop #2
May 20, 2000
Approximately 45 people attended. The following summary com-
ments/minutes were recorded during the workshop.
The general feeling was that everything looks great, and we should
get on with it. The group liked the parking, planting, bulb-outs,
etc. There was a lot of concern that these plans wori t get built, so
several people asked about funding and there was concern that we
shouldri t make the project so expensive that it cari t be done. The
group preferred the decorative paving for the parking area in front
of Evergreen Nursery (instead of asphalt) to allow for a nice
"plaza', but are willing to wait for that as a lower priority. Didri t
get into any details on design (light and paving choices, etc.) but no
one seemed to be concerned about these choices, and are likely to
be happy with whatever the RAC works out. There were some
specific areas of concern:
Pedestrian Crossings: Need to pay attention to areas needed for
crossings for school children. There was a lot of concern from a
few people that we may not have enough crossings. Should be
able to comment on whether or not there is a concentration of kids
in any one area that need to cross to get to a school.
Drainage Design: Let's not have huge crowns in the road or big
dips at the corners or along the gutter to facilitate drainage (not
sure why this came up, but it was very big with one 30 year-old
person).
Traffic Signal: Consider installing a traffic signal at Durant and
MacArthur. Make sure all traffic signals give preference to pedes-
trians. Also consider a traffic signal at MacArthur and Superior to
clean-up the intersection. If a signal is not possible here, eliminate
the U-turn.
Tree Selection: One person loved Liquid amber (sweetgum) as a tree
choice. One person was concerned about pedestrian safety around
trees. It was expressed that care should be taken in tree selection to
be sure tree trunks are not too wide (so as to create hiding places),
but that the canopies are large enough to provide the desired street
narrowing effect.
Bike Lane: There was a lot of discussion about the shared bike lane
in the southern half of the project. Most did not think it was a
good idea and were in favor of sacrificing the width of the center
median (reduce to 8' or less) to dedicate a few feet to a bike lane
(widening the parking/bike area to 10' or so}. Some felt the median
could be as narrow as 4'. Two hours was considered a good time
limit on parking on the east side of the road in this area, but may
- A4 -
