Action Plan - FI'2001 <br />City of San Leandro <br />Page 16 <br />It is anticipated that CDBG and the City's Community Assistance funds will continue to <br />support nonprofit agencies that provide job assistance and related services (such as child care) <br />to low-income members of the community. In recent years, several nonprofit agencies such as <br />Davis Street Community Center, Community Resources for Independent Living (CRIL), <br />Shelter Against Violent Environments (SAVE), and the San Leandro Shelter for Women and <br />Children have provided job support and related services to families, disabled persons, and <br />women and children who are homeless and/or in transition. <br />The City of San Leandro has attracted several commercial, office and retail development, <br />which created new employment opportunities for residents. CDBG staff will continue to work <br />closely with the City's Economic Development Coordinator to develop eligible programs and <br />promote increased economic development and community job retention. <br />The City also funds ajob-based, on-site literacy program in coordination with several San <br />Leandro based businesses. The City will continue to encourage new agencies and programs <br />providing job assistance and related services to apply for funds. <br />INSTITUTIONAL STRUCTURE <br />CDBG and HOME activities are carried out by the Development Services Department. In an <br />effort to leverage the use of funds, program staff collaborates with other City departments, <br />including Redevelopment, Economic Development, Engineering, and Community Services. The <br />City also works with non-profit agencies providing housing and supportive services throughout <br />the community. <br />PUBLIC/PRIVATE COORDINATION <br />The City of San Leandro will continue to coordinate CDBG, HOME and Redevelopment <br />Community Assistance funds to provide housing programs, public service assistance, capital <br />improvement opportunities, and economic development revitalization programs to the <br />community during the next fiscal year. <br />
