Box 2050
Oakland, CA 94604-2050
Ms. McBride:
I am writing to you to express support for the City of San Leandro's application for Bay
Trail funding. The City of San Leandro proposes to conduct a study on the feasibility of
constructing a bridge over the slough, which separates the Lew Galbraith golf course
from Bast Bay Regional Park Districts' Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline. When combined
with the Port of Oakland's proposed Bay Trail project in the airport vicinity, the San
Leandro project would result in the complete connection of Martin Luther King Jr.
Regional Shoreline Park to Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline. The Port of Oakland. and San
Leandro projects will close a gap fully linking two existing spine segments of Bay ?rail,
resulting in an approximate two miles of contiguous Bay Trail in an area historically
lacking in public access. As one of the main goals of the Bay Trail program is the
connection ofshoreline parks si~d recreation areas, funding of these projects would
contribute substantially to the realization of that vision.
~~Then combined with the many other bicycle and pedestrian improvement projects
currently planned for this area, completion of these segments will allow for recreational
as well as alternative transportation access to the many parks in the area. as well as the
Oakland International Airport, a major employment center. These projects will allow
those employed at the airport to bicycle or walk to work from neighboring communities
in a safe, enjoyable manner.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Ms. Maureen Gaffney at (510)
627-1250.
Sin~~el3,~,
.aster
Executive r7irector
530 Water Street r Jack London Square ^ P.O.
