Matter of A -95 -7; Reclassification; to Rezone from IL Limited <br /> Industrial District to IL (PD) Limited Industrial Planned <br /> Development District; and PD -95 -3; Planned Development; Reuse of <br /> Industrial Property for Church Use; Convert the Former Plumber's <br /> Union Site and Buildings Into Church Sanctuary, Classrooms, <br /> Administrative Offices and Printing Facilities for Church Related <br /> Publications; 2960 Merced Street; Assessor's Parcel Number 77B- <br /> 855-12-1; Berkland Baptist Church c/o Lincoln Property Company; <br /> IL Limited Industrial District. <br /> This being the time and place for the Public Hearing on the above <br /> matter, Elmer Penaranda presented the staff report and said this <br /> is a reuse of the old Plumbers' Union as a church. He said there <br /> will be no physical changes to the exterior and there will be <br /> excess parking. <br /> The Hearing was then opened to the public. <br /> Del Millburn, Representing the Plumbers Union, said they have <br /> been involved in the property for 33 years and are in favor of <br /> the application. <br /> Ed Kang, 8 Avondale Landing, Alameda, Representing the Church, <br /> said they are very excited to be in San Leandro. He said they <br /> will be good citizens and noted a lot of their members look <br /> forward to moving to and living in San Leandro. <br /> Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Drive, said he is thrilled because <br /> this involved private individuals selling and buying land. He <br /> said he supports the application but has a problem with the word <br /> "sanctuary" and asked if they would have to get further approval <br /> to have a sanctuary. <br /> There being no further comments from the public, on motion of <br /> Council Member Myers, seconded by Council Member Polvorosa, and <br /> carried by a majority vote (7), the Public Hearing was closed. <br /> The following Motion was then introduced: <br /> Minute Order No. 96 -4, Matter of A -95 -7; Reclassification; to <br /> Rezone from IL Limited Industrial District to IL (PD) Limited <br /> Industrial Planned Development District; and PD -95 -3; Planned <br /> Development; Reuse of Industrial Property for Church Use; Convert <br /> the Former Plumber's Union Site and Buildings Into Church <br /> Sanctuary, Classrooms, Administrative Offices and Printing <br /> Facilities for Church Related Publications; 2960 Merced Street; <br /> Assessor's Parcel Number 77B- 855 -12 -1; Berkland Baptist Church <br /> c/o Lincoln Property Company; IL Limited Industrial District. <br /> (1099/1009) <br /> On motion by Council Member Polvorosa, who moved its approval, <br /> seconded by Council Member Myers, and carried by a majority vote <br /> (7), the City Council approved A -95 -7 and P0-95 -3. <br />
