Council Member Polvorosa congratulated the new Council Members and said <br /> he is proud to have served with the outgoing Council Members. <br /> D. Council Member Perry said eight years ago she began an incredible <br /> journey. She shared some of her experiences. She said she learned <br /> patience, counting to four, respect, and building consensus. She <br /> served on more than 35 committees and had the opportunity to work with <br /> elected officials throughout the State. She said the Councils with <br /> which she has worked accomplished a lot. The community is changing <br /> back to families and children. She said she was pleased to see the <br /> Youth Advisory Commission made a full commission and discussed a number <br /> of programs that had been undertaken for the betterment of children. <br /> She discussed other accomplishments achieved during her term. Council <br /> Member Perry said there were also fun times, and recited "Linda's Top <br /> 11" including unique Council experiences such as talking policy with <br /> President Clinton and Vice - President Gore on Net Day, dressing as <br /> Rudolph for the Tree Lighting Ceremony, and carrying the flag over the <br /> cobblestoned streets of Ponta del Gada for five hours. She said no one <br /> can do anything without family support and thanked her mother, Jean, <br /> who taught her to be independent and make her own decisions. She said <br /> her brother, Chris, who is developmentally disabled, brought balance <br /> and made her realize what is truly important in life. She said the <br /> Council is like family and thanked former Mayors and Council Members <br /> for their support. She thanked City staff in all departments and said <br /> nothing is possible without their dedication. She advised the new <br /> Council Members to ask questions, listen to people, make decisions <br /> based on the best information they can obtain, maintain a sense of <br /> humor, and have a good time. She thanked the citizens of San Leandro <br /> for letting her serve. <br /> E. Council Member Galvan congratulated the new Council Members. He said <br /> he is excited and looking forward to working with them. He said he is <br /> sad to see his friends leaving; they care about the community more than <br /> themselves, and it has been a pleasure working with them. <br /> F. Mayor Corbett invited everyone to attend a party on Thursday to <br /> celebrate the accomplishments of the outgoing Council Members. She <br /> said each and every one of them has spent countless hours of time <br /> making a difference in San Leandro. She congratulated the new Council <br /> Members and said she looks forward to working with them. <br /> • <br />
