•
Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 22 -
Redevelopment Agency Meeting - August 5, 1996
8.3.8 Council Member Lothrop: I have a question regarding Wal -Mart.
Specifically, what is the approval process? Will that come to
Council? Also, I held a community meeting in my District
regarding Marina development, and I want to thank the
community that came out as well as the Council Members and
Mayor. The questions from that meeting, along with the
answers, are going to be distributed in the next week or so.
This week we are having a traffic meeting to continue the
discussion.
I went to a fundraiser for our Sister City, Naga. It was
better than the Olympics; there were parts that were so
amazing.
I went to the Marina Faire picnic. I have been a Member of the
Historic Society for a really long time. I want to encourage
people to become members. There are many people involved who
want to hear about the City's history and involvement.
8.3.9 Mayor Corbett: My complaint for this evening is the
proliferation of garage sales, those that are no longer garage
sales but flea markets. They are selling beauty products and
look like drug stores with big signs. We need to step up some
enforcement regarding garage sales to keep them within
parameters and don't abuse the process.
8.3.10 Council Member Loeffler: Does that involve Community
Standards? Do they work on weekends to monitor that?
Mayor Corbett: Yes, weekends tend to be the tough time. The
Police Department follows -up on a non - emergency matter.
8.3.11 Mayor Corbett: Tomorrow is National Night Out. Tomorrow
evening we are welcome at all the Neighborhood Watch
locations. We have over 20 participants for this year. We
thank those that are participating. Council Members will
drive around town to be at as many of those sites as possible.
Neighborhood Watch really does work in the City of San
Leandro; it really cuts down on crime.
I would also like to note that June Catalano and her daughter,
Elizabeth, are here tonight, even though it is Elizabeth's
birthday.
