Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 <br /> 6.11 Matter of Holiday Events. <br /> - Letter from Downtown Business Association (DBA) Concerning <br /> Ice Rink <br /> - Downtown Promotions <br /> - Motion Providing Direction to Staff <br /> Mayor Corbett commented on the previous vote regarding the ice rink. <br /> She said she had offered to try and raise funds from the private <br /> sector. She said to date S33,520 has been raised. The DBA presented <br /> a list of supporters, and the Mayor noted the broad range of support <br /> by businesses throughout the community. She said there is <br /> substantial interest by the business community due to the amount <br /> raised in a three -week time period. She thanked everyone who helped <br /> raise the funds and the generous businesses who donated funds. She <br /> said she was willing to continue raising funds if the Council <br /> concurred; she is willing to follow direction from the Council. She <br /> suggested the use of the Library as a possible site. <br /> Council Member Glaze applauded the Mayor for raising funds for <br /> something in which she believes. He said it was not a vote against <br /> youth; he said it is important to provide permanent activities. He <br /> supports activities for holidays and promotions for economic <br /> development. He said he has talked with children, and they want <br /> something permanent, such as roller skating, movies, etc. He cited <br /> a letter he received from a 13 year old requesting year -round <br /> activities -- something to enjoy all the time. Council Member Glaze <br /> hopes the City supports a long -term, permanent program for youth. <br /> • <br />
