Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 25 -
Redevelopment Agency Meeting - October 7, 1996
Council Member Lothrop asked staff to look into traffic issues
within the "Little Alaska" neighborhood.
Council Member Lothrop challenged the Council to a "Wok Off"
at the Farmers' Market, both for fun and to market the weekly
event at the Library. Council agreed to participate in some
way - cooking or otherwise.
8.3.6 Mayor Corbett commented on the Oakland Airport expansion
project. She said she is receiving comments on the issue.
She said the EIR study group desires an opportunity to gain
public comment. She suggested that the City provide that
opportunity. Council concurred.
Mayor Corbett said she attended the Penafrancia event. She
said it was very well attended, the food was incredible, and
made a special note that the area had been extremely well
cleaned up after the event ended. She said a letter will be
sent out. She said she had also attended wonderful kick -off
parades and festivals at St. Felicitas and Assumption
parishes.
Mayor Corbett congratulated Council Member Lothrop on her
successful crime - prevention meeting and noted that the notices
were printed in several languages, which was of wonderful
assistance to the participants.
Mayor Corbett commented that, while a long -term permanent use
of the Corp Yard is being pursued, perhaps some wild flower
seeds or grass could be planted for the community to enjoy on
a temporary basis, such as soccer fields. She suggested that
staff return with some ideas. Council concurred.
Mayor Corbett said it was probable no furlough would be
necessary . this year and the libraries would remain open.
Interim City Manager Wandzia Grycz asked that she have the
ability to inform the schools, since there was some concern
about the libraries potentially being closed. Council
concurred.
8.3.7 Council Member Glaze noted that he and Council Member Young
had attended the Washington Manor Day in the Park.
