CALL TO ORDER <br /> 1.1 Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag <br /> 1.2 Roll Call <br /> PRESENT: Members Galvan, Glaze, Loeffler, Lothrop, Polvorosa, Young; <br /> Mayor Corbett <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> 2. PRESENTATIONS <br /> 2.1 Presentation of Commendation for Joel Switzer for Installation of <br /> Benches at the San Leandro Shoreline for an Eagle Scout Project. <br /> Mayor Corbett recognized and congratulated Joel Switzer for his work. <br /> She noted that the project was Joel's Eagle Scout project. On behalf <br /> of the City Council and the entire community, she thanked him for his <br /> contribution and commitment to the community. <br /> 2.2 Presentation of Commendation to Waste Management of Alameda County <br /> for Their 1996 Solid Waste Association of North America Award for <br /> Excellence in Solid Waste Education. <br /> Mayor Corbett introduced Jack Isola and Kevin McCarthy from Waste <br /> Management of Alameda County. She commended them for receiving the <br /> prestigious national award and for representing San Leandro. Mr. <br /> Isola commented on their continued support to the community. Mr. <br /> McCarthy noted the success of the program, that over 3,000 students <br /> had participated in the program, and cited Council Member Loeffler's <br /> participation with the Garfield School children. <br /> 2.3 Presentation of Commendations to Leah Patty and Mark Yu, Students at <br /> San Leandro High School, for Their Art Work Selected as Designs for <br /> the Alameda County Children's Memorial Flag Project -- Leah Patty, <br /> 1st Place; Mark Yu, 2nd Place. <br /> Mayor Corbett described the Alameda County Children's Memorial Flag <br /> Project. She noted that two San Leandro High School students had <br /> received First and Second Place Awards. She said the flags will fly <br /> any time a child is lost to violence. She said the First Place flag <br /> will fly throughout Alameda County on schools and public buildings, <br /> and the Second Place flag will be designated as the Prayer Flag and <br /> will fly at the Children's Memorial Grove at Fairmont Ridge. The <br /> Grove will be officially dedicated on November 1, 1996. The Award <br /> recipients will receive their commendations at a later time. <br />
