The order reflects priorities as
expressed by a broad survey of community members. including, but not limited to, parents,
young people, county, city and school officials, and members of community based organizations,
the faith community, and the business community. Rather than viewing one goal as more
important than another, each should be considered as an equally vital building block to a better
and stronger San Leandro community for children and their families. In addition, it should be
stressed that in many cases, there are existing programs, services, and agencies /organizations
addressing these needs and making progress towards reaching the goals.
Action Plan Goals
1. For children and youth to have safe and positive activities before and after school
2. For children, youth and parents to know what resources are available to them
3. For youth to have access to employment opportunities and work experiences
4, For businesses and organizations to have an expanded role as educational partners
5. For children to have access to quality, affordable child care
6. For children and youth to have improved access to programs and services
7. For children, youth and adults to be involved in mentoring relationships
8. For youth programs to integrate the ideas of young people in design and implementation
9. For youth and adults to respect and value each other as equal and unique individuals
10. For children and youth to have improved access to health resources and services
Agency Endorsement of Youth Development Master Plan:
City of San Leandro (10/19/98)
SLUSD (10/20/98)
SLZUSD (10/20/98)
Supervisor Wilma Chan (10/19/98)
