The Office of Business Development funded 50 percent of the participation costs (for a total of <br /> $13,000). In addition to fostering an industrial community based upon principles of sustainability, <br /> the City's hope is that the Sustainability Circle will help companies identify energy efficiency <br /> improvement projects that are consistent with the goals of the ICP. <br /> Although the ICP took several months to gain traction within the industrial community, staff is now <br /> confident that local businesses are beginning to take advantage of the program on a more consistent <br /> basis. A handful of new applications were submitted in the spring and summer of 2010, and the <br /> completion of the Sustainability Circle this month is likely to generate additional project proposals. <br /> 3. Update on Development Projects <br /> a. CVS: Business Development Manager Battenberg explained that CVS is working with the <br /> Agency in order to extend the existing parking agreement for use of the Agency owned <br /> parking lot located on Callan Ave. and on the design of an extensive remodel of the store. <br /> The remodel will include the removal of the mansard roof and arcade, the creation of an <br /> entrance on Callan Ave. and the construction of a tower element on the corner of E. Pe <br /> Street and Callan Ave. <br /> b. First Interstate Bank: Battenberg informed the Committee the Agency is working with <br /> Chase Bank to demolish the vacant former First Interstate Bank at 1639 E. 14 Street in <br /> order to expand bank parking and create pedestrian and vehicle access during the Farmers' <br /> Market. The building, which is owned by and located directly adjacent to, Chase Bank is <br /> beyond repair and an eyesore. <br /> c. Chrysler: Battenberg explained that the Chrysler Corporation is currently in plan check for <br /> improvements to the former GMC Pontiac site on Marina Boulevard and intends to start <br /> construction this fall. <br /> d. The Annex: Battenberg explained that the large coffee warehouse is moving from Hayward <br /> to 221,000 sq ft located on Doolittle Drive. <br /> e. Halis Power Systems: a renewable energy products and services company, which <br /> specializes in refurbishing wind turbines recently moved to San Leandro at 2539 Grant <br /> Avenue. <br /> f. Boulevard Burger: Battenberg informed the Committee the Boulevard Burger located at <br /> 1027 McArthur Blvd received a positive review in the San Francisco Chronicle. <br /> g. Housing Element: Sims updated the Committee on the adoption of the City's Housing <br /> Element. Sims explained that the State has asked the City to expand the reasonable <br /> accommodation section of the element. The reasonable accommodation section provides <br /> simple procedures for disabled persons who need to make modifications to their home that <br /> are not allowed under the zoning code. Sims explained that the housing staff is working on <br /> the changes. <br /> 4. Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Report — April/May /June 2010 <br /> Chamber of Commerce CEO Dave Johnson updated the Committee on the Chamber of Commerce <br /> activities in the 4 quarter of Fiscal Year 2009 -10 (see attached memo). <br />
