Keith indicated that the City made Safe
Routes to Schools Grant Application for two traffic light locations; at Monterey
Boulevard /Floresta Boulevard and 136 Avenue /Bancroft Avenue. Staff has not received
results yet on this application. The 136 Avenue /Bancroft Avenue Signal is planned to
have a `Scramble" phase to accommodate the high pedestrian demand. A mid -block in-
pavement lighted crosswalk on Montague Avenue /Aladdin Avenue at Lincoln High was
also included in the Safe Routes to School grant application. Councilmember Gregory
inquired if we have collected collision statistics at the locations of the in- pavement
lighted crosswalks that were installed. Keith noted that the data has not been reviewed;
however, it will be tabulated for future review.
2. Discussion Regarding 5 -Year Undergrounding Utility List
Nick Thom gave a PowerPoint presentation regarding the Utility Undergrounding Five -
Year Plan. He introduced the projects that are on the Master Plan List and said the List is
a means to keep focus on priorities while looking ahead at what needs to be done. Nick
explained that underground districts can be created for projects on the List. To become
an underground district requires two Council actions: 1) Notice of intent and; 2) Creation
of the district. Councihnember Souza wanted to know how the Master Plan List is
generated. Nick indicated that Engineering, Redevelopment and other department staff
discuss and recommend the projects for the List. Uche added that staff action is ahvays
based on the Council approved comprehensive process and criteria for setting
undergrounding priorities and developing a five year project list. Councilmember Souza
suggested that the Eden Road District, when created, should perhaps continue into
Doolittle Drive. Uche said that since undergrounding work is done more efficiently when
done in conjunction with roadway work, it seems prudent to limit the district with the
Eden Roadway project.
Committee Recommendations:
