o Annual Street Sealing 2009 -10 <br /> • Work will start next week <br /> • Focus is on the Bay -O -Vista area to coincide with the Public Works projects <br /> • Farnsworth Street chosen for new process using micro - surfacing (or rubber <br /> material) <br /> • New process is less expensive and extends the life of the asphalt <br /> • Most of the focus is on the Bay -O -Vista area • <br /> o Wicks and Blue Dolphin Sanitary Sewer Pump Stations Replacement <br /> • Completion in early October 2010 <br /> • Force mains piping was installed using directional drilling methods <br /> o Water Pollution Control Plant Rehabilitation <br /> • Consist of a series of projects <br /> • 2550 Davis Street Remediation to address arsenic issues is complete <br /> • 2660 Eden Road - Work will begin in October 2010 to remove the dirt pile with a <br /> remediation phase to follow <br /> • Rehabilitation Project <br /> o Constructability review is scheduled for Council on September 20, 2010 <br /> o Dedicated source funding is scheduled for Council on September 20, 2010 <br /> o 90% design documents due from consultant at the end of September <br /> o Estudillo Callan Garage <br /> • 4 -level structure is the recommended alternative based on available funding <br /> • Award of contract is scheduled for Council on September 20, 2010 <br /> Discussion ensued regarding the Bancroft Avenue Rehabilitation project. <br /> Councilmember Michael Gregory took this opportunity to bring up the International <br /> Walk to School Day on October 7, 2010. He would like to see the City, along with the <br /> Vice -Mayor and the school's PTA committees, be pro - active in delivering the message to <br /> the community and encourage them to walk/bike to school. Ken commented that he has <br /> been talking with school staff along the project route, specifically Jefferson Elementary, <br /> to provide parents with alternate drop off locations to avoid the construction area and <br /> minimize traffic congestion. Keith Cooke said that the Safe Routes to School "Walk and <br /> Roll" Program is already scheduled for that week at the Washington, McKinley <br /> Roosevelt, Madison and Garfield elementary schools. Jefferson Elementary is not on the <br /> list; however, Keith will look into adding one more day to the Program to include <br /> Jefferson Elementary. <br /> Discussion ensued regarding the Annual Street Sealing 2009 -10 project. City Manager <br /> Hollister talked about the ADA- compliance requirements that are triggered when road <br /> work, such as the sealing project, is performed. Ken followed up by addressing the <br /> Farnsworth "T" intersection ramps that require upgrading and /or installation treatments <br /> during the project, pursuant to these ADA requirements. The proposed ramps will result <br /> in the elimination of available parking spots in front of homes at those locations.
