He would like to see the City, along with the <br /> Vice -Mayor and the school's PTA committees, be pro - active in delivering the message to <br /> the community and encourage them to walk/bike to school. Ken commented that he has <br /> been talking with school staff along the project route, specifically Jefferson Elementary, <br /> to provide parents with alternate drop off locations to avoid the construction area and <br /> minimize traffic congestion. Keith Cooke said that the Safe Routes to School "Walk and <br /> Roll" Program is already scheduled for that week at the Washington, McKinley <br /> Roosevelt, Madison and Garfield elementary schools. Jefferson Elementary is not on the <br /> list; however, Keith will look into adding one more day to the Program to include <br /> Jefferson Elementary. <br /> Discussion ensued regarding the Annual Street Sealing 2009 -10 project. City Manager <br /> Hollister talked about the ADA- compliance requirements that are triggered when road <br /> work, such as the sealing project, is performed. Ken followed up by addressing the <br /> Farnsworth "T" intersection ramps that require upgrading and /or installation treatments <br /> during the project, pursuant to these ADA requirements. The proposed ramps will result <br /> in the elimination of available parking spots in front of homes at those locations.
