Moffatt & Nichol (M &N) performed services which included development of a Marina
Complete Improvements plan, study of the feasibility of reducing shoaling and wave action within the
Type and Location of Project Marina along with the environmental impacts associated with marina improvements, and
development of dredging and pier removal plans and specifications. Specifically, M&N
• Marina Improvements evaluated the environmental climate of the Marina, developed breakwater improvement
, • Martinez. California alternatives to limit shoaling, conceptual deigns for breakwater repairs, entrance
reconfiguat!on, and dredging elements of proposed improvements.
Key Team Members
The marina basin is shoaling al a substantial rate due to suspended sediments coming
. • Dilip Trivedi from the Delta, whicn enter the basin and settle out In the quiescent harbor. Additional
deposits occur because of the mixing of fresh water with Incoming tidal water, wind -driven
Scope of Involvement waves, and low breakwater crest elevations to the east and northwest. M &N performed a
• Master Planning numerical hydrodynamic modeling study that investigated the feasibility of reducing
shoaling and wave action within the Marina by making structural modifications to the
Financing Sources entrance of the existing timber -pile breakwater. Breakwater altematives were simulated,
• City of Martinez including modeling of physical processes including waves, tides and sedimentation within
Ole basin
Public/Private Partnerships In support of the proposed Improvements, an Initial Study and Mitigated Negative
• City of Martinez (Owner) _ Declaration were prepared along with funding applications to the Califomia Department of
• Pacific Marina Development (Master Boating And Waterways. In support of the proposed Improvements, construction bid
• Almar Marinas (Marina Operator) documents for dredging, increasing the capacity of the Upland Dredge Material Disposal
Site, and demolition of an existing pier were prepared.
Applicability to the Harbor Basin Study
• Marina master planning
• Sedimentation studies
• Hydrology & hydrodynamics
• Engineering / Cost Estimating
D -6 Cory of Son Loandro Harbor Basin Alternatives Study RFP 50536
•
