DILIP TRIVEDI, Dr.Eng., P.E.,
Project Manager / Coastal Engineer
REGISTRATION:
Civil Engineer - State Of California, C54677
EDUCATION:
Dr. Eng., Engineering, Texas A &M University, 1994
M.E., Ocean Engineering, Texas A &M University, 1990
B.E., Civil Engineering, Bangalore University, India, 1984
EXPERIENCE:
Dr. Trivedi brings over 20 years of experience in civil and coastal engineering, with emphasis on leading
technical studies as well as implementing projects on the waterfront. His experience includes planning,
design, and construction support for projects related to urban waterfront development, restoration of
wetlands and fluvial systems, and marina operations. He has used sophisticated numerical methods
including wave, hydrodynamic and sediment transport models to address coastal /estuarine processes
and tidal hydraulics within large bays and estuaries as well as open coastlines. He has been a key player
on several multi - disciplinary projects such as the development of Hunters Point and Treasure Island Navy
Bases, restoration of Bair Island and North Bay Diked Baylands, marina planning for San Francisco,
Oyster Point, and Martinez Marinas, coastal engineering for the Cities of Oakland, San Francisco, and ,
Redwood City, and hydraulic studies for the new Bay Bridge and other open -coast areas along Northern
Califomia.
Dr. Trivedi s recent projects include sea level rise and public use planning for large urban redevelopment
projects on the former Treasure Island and Hunters Point Navy bases in San Francisco, restoration
planning for several North Bay diked baylands, design and analyses for former salt ponds in the South
. Bay, and FEMA flooding studies in the South Bay. He is also very familiar with environmental planning,
management policies, and regulations related to resource enhancement, as well as identifying funding
streams and preparing grant applications. Dr. Trivedi has served in an advisory capacity related to
hydrodynamics and coastal engineering on several large marsh restoration projects in the San Francisco
Bay Area including the Napa Sonoma Marsh, Bel Marin Keys, and the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration.
REPRESENTATIVE PROJECT EXPERIENCE:
Martinez Marina Breakwater Modifications, Martinez, CA USA. Evaluated wave and sedimentation
regimes in the vicinity of Martinez Marina, with the objective of reducing the need for annual maintenance
dredging at the marina as well as reducing storm damage to certain berths in the harbor. The MIKE PMS
numerical model was used to develop transformation coefficients within the harbor. The work was
conducted for the City of Martinez, which included evaluating annual shoaling rate in the marina, the
effect of tidal and wave driven currents to shoaling patterns, developing alternatives to reduce the amount
of wave energy and shoaling within the marina, and numerically simulating the altematives such that
breakwater, modifications could be implemented. Budgetary estimates for capital improvements as well as
long -term maintenance of the breakwater were prepared for the City.
San Francisco Marina Breakwater Analyses, CA USA. Conducted wave transformation and sediment
transport studies, and developed altematives to reduce the amount of shoaling and to provide wave
protection to San Francisco Marina. Conducted numerical simulations of storm wave energy dissipation
and sediment transport around the tip of the proposed breakwaters, and estimated the reduction in wave
energy and sedimentation over the long term. A spectral wave model (MIKE NSW) was used to develop
transformation coefficients for ocean swells as well as local storm seas. Prepared layout plans for a new
wave barrier at the mouth of the marina, and prepared budgetary cost estimates to assist the City in
obtaining funds for the new structure.
San Francisco International Airport Runway Reconfiguration, CA USA. Task Manager for evaluating
the impacts to tidal hydrodynamics, water quality, sedimentation, sediment transport processes, and tidal
flooding caused by the potential restoration of about 12,000 acres of diked former marshlands in the
North Bay and about 15,000 acres of former salt ponds in the South Bay of the San Francisco Estuary.
Prepared marsh evolution time, estimates and evaluated potential impacts to local and regional water
