San Leandro LINKS 2010Shurde Rider Survey
Trip Purpose
In 2010, three - quarters of riders used the shuttle to commute to work. This marks a return to
2007 levels after a big increase in 2008. The proportion of riders using the shuttle for school
fluctuates, and is now at 6 %. This year, nearly one out of ten riders said they were using the
shuttle for an "other" reason. Other reasons include "meeting a friend," "going home" and
"doing volunteer work." Table 1 shows the trip purpose.
Table 1 — Purpose of Trip
Purpose 2006 2007 2008 2010
Commute to Work 87% 78% 93% 76%
Errands /Shopping/Library - 4% 3% 6%
School 5% 12% l% 6%
Davis Street Family Resource Center - 4% l% 4%
Other 6% 2% 1% 9%
Total 100% 100% 100% 100%
Home Locations
All respondents were asked their home Zipcodes. Nearly half of shuttle riders (45 %) live in San
Leandro, a striking increase from 23% in 2008. One -fifth (22 %) live in Oakland, comparable to
2008. Nearly all respondents live in the East Bay, most in areas that BART services.
Table 2 on the following page shows the cities that shuttle riders live in.
Valerie Brady Conmldng 3 October 2010
