San Leandro L1111S 7010 Shuttle Rider Survey
San Leandro LINKS
2010 Shuttle Rider Survey
Background
The LINKS Shuttle program has been providing free round -trip service from the San Leandro
BART station to employers in West San Leandro since 2001. The overriding objective of the
LINKS shuttle is to serve employers by aiding retention and hiring. In its ninth year of operation,
ridership remains steady and is sometimes at capacity. The rider study measures satisfaction and
use to determine ways to improve the shuttle service. The survey was conducted annually from
2006 -2008, and now in 2010.
Funding for the shuttle has been provided by various agencies, including the City of San Leandro
Redevelopment Agency, a West San Leandro Business Improvement District (BID), a Low
Income Federal Transportation (LIFT) grant, as well as grants from the Bay Area Air Quality
Management District and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
Sun'ey Methodology
The survey was administered to shuttle riders on September 28` and 29 during the morning and
afternoon hours of shuttle operation. Both Spanish and English versions were available. A total
of 202 responses were collected, the highest response in the four years that the survey has been
conducted. The high response may be partly attributable to the fact that an incentive was offered.
Respondents were offered "Carrot Cash" - S10 in gift certificates donated by the San Leandro
Farmer's Market.
In the four years that the survey has been conducted, the questionnaire hasn't changed much, so
the results are directly comparable year to year. A copy of the questionnaire is included in the
Appendix.
Valerie Brock Consulting 2 October 2010
•
