needed to move ahead.
2. Discussion Regarding City County and School Board Joint Work Session
At the January 2011, meeting it was agreed that the next meeting of the
City/District Liaison committee would be in April; however, Monday, May 9,
was the earliest date available. It is the hope that the meeting can be held at
the new Arts Education Center; however, if this is not possible the meeting
will be held at the San Leandro main library. The District will submit agenda
items to the City who will draft an agenda.
3. Update on Proposition 84 Park Grant
Board Member Katz - Lacabe prefaced the discussion by sharing that in his
conversation with the Mayor, the thought was that there may be a way to
leverage Proposition 84 funds for additional Measure M funding.
Recreation and Human Services Director Carolyn Knudtson provided an
update, recapping that last year out of 475 applications, 62 grants were
awarded from the $184 million in Proposition 84 Park grants. The City made
it through the first round and a second round will make another $184
million available for those not selected in round one, announcing that the
City intends to resubmit their application by the July 1, 2011, deadline.
Suggestions and thoughts were shared on how the City might meet the two
critical criteria areas lacking in the City's application: socioeconomics of
population served and lack of park space. Ms. Knudtson indicated that she
would pinpoint any suggestions to see if that would increase their chances
for qualifying.
4. Update on Traffic Light at Bancroft and 136th
Uche Udemezue, Engineering & Transportation Director, acknowledged the
joint effort of the City Council and the San Leandro Unified School District in
securing a grant under the state legislative Safe Routes to School (SR2S)
Program to fund a traffic light at Bancroft and 136th Avenue. Completion of
the project is expected in the summer of 2012.
5. Update on Arts Education Center
San Leandro Unified Assistant Superintendent Song Chin - Bendib of
Business Operations provided the following update:
• Over the Presidents' holiday, The San Leandro High School
• Academy of Multimedia (SLAM) will begin moving into four
classrooms (two computer labs and two teaching classrooms) of
the Arts Education Center (AEC)
2
