MINUTES Page 15 <br /> City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting— February 22, 2011 <br /> 11. CITY COUNCIL REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> City Councilmembers report on their activities, including attendance at Intergovernmental <br /> Agency meetings, conferences and seminars, and local events, and make brief announcements <br /> on issues of concern. <br /> Councilmember Souza attended the Environmental Forum sponsored by the Friends of San <br /> Leandro Creek this past weekend. She reported that the ACAP (Associated Community <br /> Action Program) Board, of which she is Chair, has met several times recently, and taken <br /> action on some personnel matters. The Board appointed Sam Tuttelman as Interim Executive <br /> Director, and is working diligently with staff to resolve the organization's issues. <br /> Councilmember Starosciak reported that she attended the Black Student Alliance Dinner <br /> Theater at John Muir Middle School. She commented on the Countywide Safe Routes to <br /> Schools report prepared by Transform. The report concluded that buses and crossing guards <br /> were factors that encouraged a reduction in car trips, and she hopes crossing guard discussions <br /> with the School Districts begin early. Councilmember Starosciak commented on the concept <br /> of a "crash tax," noting that about 3% of fire calls for service come from the freeways, and <br /> she suggested looking into reimbursement for the cost of first responder services. <br /> Councilmember Cutter commented that she is looking forward to attending her first Waste <br /> Management Authority meeting. She requested the Mayor adjourn tonight's meeting in <br /> memory of former Councilmember Faith Frazier. <br /> Councilmember Prola reported on the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District <br /> meeting; the African American Achievement Night at John Muir Middle School; the East Bay <br /> Dischargers Authority Board and Committee meetings; and the evening Coffee with the <br /> Mayor meeting at the Marina Community Center. He also attended the Eden Township <br /> Healthcare District meeting, and reported on the possibility of St. Rose Hospital operating <br /> San Leandro Hospital. Councilmember Prola announced the following upcoming meetings: <br /> Shop San Leandro First at the Marina Community Center tonight; Latino Achievement Night <br /> at John Muir Middle School on March 3` and the Shoreline Development Citizens Advisory <br /> Committee meeting on March 16 Councilmember Prola commented that he believed the <br /> City should recognize the achievements of Nonito Donaire, a former local resident who <br /> recently won the professional unified bantamweight boxing title. <br /> Vice Mayor Reed reported that she attended the Stopwaste.Org meeting as Councilmember <br /> Cutter's altemate, and an ACAP meeting. The Alameda County Housing Authority <br /> Commission has merged with the Dublin Housing Authority, and Vice Mayor Reed was <br /> named Vice Chair of the merged Commission. She attended the African American <br /> Achievement Awards and San Leandro High School Career Day. <br /> Councilmember Gregory reported that he is planning a trip to Brazil in August, and requested <br /> a meeting of City Council Civic and Cultural Committee to discuss sanctioning an official <br /> cultural exchange visit. He attended the Alameda County Fire Commission meeting, <br /> reporting on the recent mergers/consolidations, and collaboration between Alameda County <br /> Fire and Healthcare Services departments to reduce local emergency room visits. <br />
