3. Discussion Regarding Countywide Transportation Plan / Regional Transportation
Plan
Keith Cooke gave a PowerPoint presentation on the Countywide Transportation Plan /
Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). Keith explained that areas in the nine Bay Area
counties have been identified to sufficiently accommodate the region's population,
including all income groups, in the next 25 years. General planning of projects included
in the RTP and the Countywide Transportation Plan are those projects that will support
the principles of housing people, reducing greenhouse gases and integrating work, school,
play and shopping. For projects to compete for funding, they must be included in these
plans. Typically larger projects, such as an interchange that involves one or more cities,
will be included in the RTP. The call for projects has gone out and outreach meetings
will be held. Keith presented a list of potential new projects for inclusion.
Discussion ensued. Staff responded to questions from the Committee. Councilmembers
Starosciak and Souza asked that all Councilmembers be informed of the upcoming
outreach meetings. Councilmember Starosciak commented that she is happy to see
pedestrian improvement projects on the list and stated that the information and lists are
very helpful for Council. Councilmember Souza asked that Council be given the
opportunity to provide projects for inclusion and asked that a memo be sent out. Keith
stated that Councilmembers will receive information in their packet that will include the
criteria for the projects that should be included.
4. Discussion Regarding T- Intersection Ramps
Ken Joseph gave a PowerPoint presentation on the T- Intersection Ramps. The City has a
total of 114 ramp locations that need to be addressed. 103 ramps will be installed in new
locations or to replace outdated ramps; 88 ramps at street corners are not of particular
concern at this time; 4 T- Intersections have existing ramps and replacement creates no
additional impact; 11 T- Intersections will require new ramps that will result in loss of on-
street parking. Some ramps will be added to the sidewalk project for construction in
April and May. Street work will be staggered throughout summer.
Discussion ensued. Staff responded to questions from the Committee. Councilmember
Starosciak stated that the map is very helpful and should be shared with the Council as
the color coding provides a very good explanation of the ramp locations.
5. Public Comments
None
6. Committee Member Comments
None
7. Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
