CALIFORNIA <br /> avoided, they shall be assessed to determine their paleontological significance. If the <br /> paleontological resources are not significant, avoidance is not necessary. If the <br /> paleontological resources are significant, they shall be avoided to the extent feasible and any <br /> adverse effects shall be mitigated. Upon completion of the assessment, the paleontologist <br /> shall prepare a report documenting the methods and results, and shall provide <br /> recommendations for the treatment of the paleontological resources discovered. The report <br /> shall be submitted to the City of San Leandro and to the University of California Museum of <br /> Paleontology. <br /> d) Disturb any human remains, including those interred outside offormal cemeteries? <br /> Less Than Significant with Mitigation Incorporated. No recorded human remains have been <br /> identified within the project site. However, such subsurface remains may exist in the project area. <br /> Implementation of Mitigation Measure CULT -3, described below, would ensure that potential <br /> impacts to human remains would be reduced to a less than significant level. <br /> Mitigation Measure CULT -3: If human remains are encountered during project activities, <br /> work within 25 feet of the discovery shall be redirected and the Alameda County Coroner <br /> shall be notified immediately. At the same time, an archaeologist shall be contacted to assess <br /> the situation and consult with agencies as appropriate. The City of San Leandro shall also be <br /> notified. Project personnel shall not collect or move any human remains or associated <br /> materials. If the human remains are of Native American origin, the Coroner shall notify the <br /> Native American Heritage Commission within 24 hours of this identification. The Native <br /> American Heritage Commission shall identify a Most Likely Descendant (MLD) to inspect <br /> the site and provide recommendations for the proper treatment of the remains and associated <br /> grave goods. Upon completion of the assessment, the archaeologist shall prepare a report <br /> documenting the methods and results, and shall provide recommendations for the treatment of <br /> the human remains and any associated cultural materials, as appropriate and in coordination <br /> with the recommendations of the MLD.
