City and San Leandro Unified School District Liaison Committee <br /> March 31, 2011 <br /> Page 3 <br /> Board President Mack -Rose inquired about a City sponsorship policy in regards to funding. <br /> Deputy City Manager Diaz did not know of one but stated that she will research if there is <br /> such a City policy. <br /> Another discussion ensued on the possibility of a joint project on a LINKS -type of shuttle <br /> service to help with transportation to /from the Burrell Stadium, when complete. <br /> Superintendent Cathey mentioned that this suggestion is exactly the type of idea that the <br /> Conceptual Design Team might discuss since parking will be limited. <br /> 4. Discussion Regarding Arts Education Center Sneak Peek Event on April 20, 2011 <br /> Deputy City Manager Diaz distributed a postcard announcing the Open House on April 20, <br /> 2011 of the new San Leandro High School Arts Education Center. She encouraged all to <br /> share the information with friends. Superintendent Cathey also encouraged everyone to <br /> call for tickets at 352 -8473. The Mayor mentioned that he will attend. The Mayor also <br /> mentioned that he has already purchased a name plate for one of the seats in the theater as <br /> part of the San Leandro Education Foundation (SLED) Friends of the Theater purchase a <br /> seat fundraiser that has just begun. <br /> A discussion ensued about the District possibly promoting its entertainment groups (i.e., <br /> The Notables) as an ambassador group and maybe posting their performances on YouTube. <br /> 5. Review of the SLUSD Wellness Policy <br /> Assistant Superintendent Chin - Bendib introduced Andrew Soliz, the District's Manager of <br /> Food Services. A discussion ensued on the District's current and much improved <br /> nutritional food program. Councilmember Gregory suggested that an exercise program be <br /> promoted in the schools, as well. Superintendent Cathey stated that a program called <br /> Playworks that promotes outdoor exercise and the awareness of being physically fit is <br /> being implemented at Garfield and Jefferson Schools and will soon be starting at Wilson <br /> Elementary School thanks to a grant from Kaiser. She stated that this program is not <br /> available for all District schools because of lack of funds. A discussion ensued and it was <br /> decided that updates on the Let's Move Program and Playworks will be on the agenda at <br /> the next committee meeting. <br /> 6. Continued Discussion Regarding City and SLUSD Liaison Committee Meeting Days <br /> and Times <br /> After a discussion, it was decided that this committee would not meet in April and will <br /> consider the May 9 Joint Work Session its May meeting. <br /> 7. Public Comments <br /> None. <br />
