City and San Leandro Unified School District Liaison Committee March 31, 2011 Page 3 Board President Mack -Rose inquired about a City sponsorship policy in regards to funding. Deputy City Manager Diaz did not know of one but stated that she will research if there is such a City policy. Another discussion ensued on the possibility of a joint project on a LINKS -type of shuttle service to help with transportation to /from the Burrell Stadium, when complete. Superintendent Cathey mentioned that this suggestion is exactly the type of idea that the Conceptual Design Team might discuss since parking will be limited. 4. Discussion Regarding Arts Education Center Sneak Peek Event on April 20, 2011 Deputy City Manager Diaz distributed a postcard announcing the Open House on April 20, 2011 of the new San Leandro High School Arts Education Center. She encouraged all to share the information with friends. Superintendent Cathey also encouraged everyone to call for tickets at 352 -8473. The Mayor mentioned that he will attend. The Mayor also mentioned that he has already purchased a name plate for one of the seats in the theater as part of the San Leandro Education Foundation (SLED) Friends of the Theater purchase a seat fundraiser that has just begun. A discussion ensued about the District possibly promoting its entertainment groups (i.e., The Notables) as an ambassador group and maybe posting their performances on YouTube. 5. Review of the SLUSD Wellness Policy Assistant Superintendent Chin - Bendib introduced Andrew Soliz, the District's Manager of Food Services. A discussion ensued on the District's current and much improved nutritional food program. Councilmember Gregory suggested that an exercise program be promoted in the schools, as well. Superintendent Cathey stated that a program called Playworks that promotes outdoor exercise and the awareness of being physically fit is being implemented at Garfield and Jefferson Schools and will soon be starting at Wilson Elementary School thanks to a grant from Kaiser. She stated that this program is not available for all District schools because of lack of funds. A discussion ensued and it was decided that updates on the Let's Move Program and Playworks will be on the agenda at the next committee meeting. 6. Continued Discussion Regarding City and SLUSD Liaison Committee Meeting Days and Times After a discussion, it was decided that this committee would not meet in April and will consider the May 9 Joint Work Session its May meeting. 7.
