• Several retail businesses have either opened recently or are preparing for new openings in the <br /> near future. Anna Linen's has moved from Marina Square is preparing for a grand opening <br /> at the Greenhouse Marketplace in early April. A new Guess store is preparing to open at <br /> Marina Square in the space vacated by Anna's Linens. Espirit is also planning to open at <br /> Marina Square at the former Dressbarn location. In the North area, Mae's Southern <br /> Comfort is relocating their restaurant from Victoria Circle to the North -East comer of <br /> Bancroft and Dutton at the former Cornerstone Cafe site, and Angelina's Bakery, an Italian <br /> bakery, will be opening nearby at the former location of Manta's Sweet Potato Pie Co. <br /> • Businesses in San Leandro are encouraged to attend a Sustainability Circle Preview to learn <br /> how to identify opportunities in their company to improve profitability by adopting <br /> sustainable business practices. Representatives from Innisfree Ventures II, which has an exclusive right to negotiate <br /> agreement with the City's Redevelopment Agency, will be providing an update on their <br /> progress. <br /> •. <br /> � '� L {'r - i . ; - - . . <br /> PlanningrZomng, • <br /> 110 Building Update ' <br /> • Planning Services Division and Police Department staff presented policy options and issues <br /> for City Council to consider regarding the regulation of medical marijuana dispensaries <br /> and cultivation facilities at the February 28 City Council Work Session. The Council directed <br /> Planning staff to proceed with the option to prepare an ordinance banning both medical <br /> marijuana dispensaries and cultivation facilities. Staff anticipates have an ordinance ready for <br /> Council review in May /June 2011. <br /> • In early February, State Housing and Community Development (HCD) Department formally <br /> certified and approved the City's 201 Housing Element Update. The certification officially <br /> confirms that the City's Housing Element Update is fully compliant with State law. The City <br /> Council adopted the new Housing Element Update in April 2010, but the City received a <br /> letter from the HCD in July 2010 regarding some minor edits to it. Staff then re- submitted <br /> their modifications to HCD in September 2010. <br /> • The City Council approved amendments to the General Plan on March 21, 2011. The <br /> amendments provide internal consistency between the 2002 General Plan, the 2007 <br /> Downtown San Leandro Transit Oriented Development Strategy (TOD Strategy), and the <br /> 2010 Housing Element. Key changes include the introduction of a new category to the <br /> General Plan Map, and the replacement of General Plan Chapter 9 (Executive Summary of <br /> the Housing Element) with an updated Chapter 9. <br /> 3J <br />
