Peterson, Adminis ative
Services Manager
SUBJECT PROJECT /PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
RESOLUTION APPROVING AN AMENDMENT TO COMMUNICATIONS SITE LEASE
\VITI -I NEW CINGULAR WIRELESS (AT &T) FOR EXPANSION OF ITS WIRELESS
COMMUNICATION SITE AT THE MONARCH BAY GOLF COURSE.
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends approval of the second amendment to the Communications Site Lease
Agreement with New Cingular Wireless (AT &T) to allow the expansion of its wireless
communications site at the Monarch Bay Golf Course at 13800 Monarch Bay Drive.
The amendment allows AT &T to increase the size of its on- ground facilities by 80 sq. ft. to
install additional equipment. The amendment also allows for an additional antenna and
associated cables as more completely described in the attached exhibit. The monthly rent for this
expansion will increase by $1,125 to a total of $3,375. The City will receive $40,000 - $45,000
per year in lease payments from AT &T during the initial 5 -year term. The lease allows for two
additional 3 -year lease extensions and annual increases of 3% per year.
BACKGROUND
New Cingular Wireless (AT &T) originally leased the site for five years in May 2005. The lease
was amended in August 2010 to extend its term and increase the amount of rent. This second
lease amendment requires Council action because it proposes an expansion of the leased site.
The proposed expansion and equipment was reviewed and approved by the Public Works
Department. American Golf, who leases the site from the City, has provided its permission for
AT &T's use of the site as long as the funds are placed in the City's Golf CIP account for future
improvements of the golf course.
