• <br /> • • • <br /> • <br /> TITLE VII MAPS, BUILDINGS, AND SUBDIVISIONS <br /> Chapter 14 Signs <br /> • <br /> ARTICLE 1. GENERAL <br /> Section 7 -14 -100: PURPOSE. The purpose of this sign ordinance <br /> is the promotion of the public welfare and safety by regulating <br /> and controlling the number, area, design, construction, location, <br /> maintenance, electrification, inspection and removal of signs on <br /> private property, thereby preserving and enhancing the appearance, <br /> safety and economic well -being of the City of San Leandro. <br /> (Legislative History: Ordinance No. 84 -020, 10/1/84) <br /> Section 7 -14 -105: DEFINITIONS. The following definitions shall <br /> govern the construction of this ordinance: <br /> (1) Abandoned Sign: A sign located on property which <br /> becomes vacant for a period of three (3) months or more; <br /> a sign erected for a previous occupant or business <br /> unrelated to the present occupant or business; a sign <br /> which pertains to a time, event or purpose which no <br /> longer pertains; structural supports to which no sign is <br /> attached. An abandoned sign shall be deemed to be a <br /> non - conforming sign. <br /> • <br /> (Legislative History: Ordinance No. 72 -34, 6/12/72) <br /> (2) Abate: To bring into conformity with the provisions of <br /> this ordinance, either by reconstruction or modification <br /> pursuant to a sign permit, or by removal or obliteration <br /> as directed by the Building Regulations Superintendent. <br /> (3) Accessory Sign: A sign which indicates the name of the <br /> property, the name or trademark of the person in <br /> possession and control of the property, or the business <br /> conducted, services rendered, goods produced, <br /> distributed or sold, entertainment offered or event to <br /> occur upon the property upon which the sign is <br /> installed. <br /> (4) Building Frontage: The frontage of a building or <br /> occupancy on a passageway, excluding service drives, <br /> loading areas and similar areas. If a building has more <br /> than one such frontage, the owner or occupant may select <br /> as the primary frontage any frontage containing a <br /> • <br /> customer entrance.
