• • <br /> • . <br /> TITLE VII MAPS, BUILDINGS, AND SUBDIVISIONS <br /> Chapter 14 Signs <br /> (5) Canopy Sian: A sign installed on the face or top of a <br /> canopy or marquee and parallel to the wall of the <br /> building to which the canopy or marquee is attached. <br /> (6) Directional Sian: A sign intended solely for the <br /> purpose of directing vehicular or pedestrian traffic. <br /> (7) Exterior Illuminated Sign: A sign illuminated by a <br /> visible light source other than an indirectly <br /> illuminated sign. <br /> (8) Face Area: The area of each individual sign surface <br /> upon, against, or through which the message is displayed <br /> or illustrated. The area of a sign surface composed of <br /> characters, illustrations or words attached directly to <br /> a wall or vertical surface of a building or structure <br /> shall be the area of the smallest rectangle or series of <br /> contiguous rectangles which enclose such.characters, <br /> illustrations or words. <br /> (9) Freestanding Sian: A sign supported from the ground by <br /> a structure installed primarily for the.purpose of <br /> supporting the sign, other than an off-site advertising <br /> sign or a pedestrian advertising panel. (Ordinance No. <br /> 74 -63, 11/4/74) <br /> (10) Indirectly - Illuminated Sian: A sign illuminated by a <br /> light source not an integral part of the sign. <br /> (11) Install: To build, construct, attach, hang, place, <br /> suspend, paint or affix. Install shall also include <br /> maintenance subsequent to installation. <br /> (12) Interior - Illuminated Sian: A sign illuminated by a <br /> nonvisible light source located within the sign. <br /> (13) Nameplate: A sign designating: <br /> (a) The name of a building; <br /> (b) The address of property; <br /> (c) The name of an occupant; <br /> (d) The profession of an occupant. <br /> 9/28/82 -2- <br />
