Guidelines Regarding Support for Measures/Legislation 2 June 20, 2011 <br />The City Council as a group will not adopt a formal position in favor of or in opposition <br />to ballot measures or legislation unless such ballot measure or legislation has a direct <br />benefit to or impact on a significant portion of the community of San Leandro or the City <br />of San Leandro. <br />Councilmembers requesting City Council support for or opposition to a ballot measure or <br />legislation shall first receive consensus from the body to place said support or opposition <br />on a future agenda for Council discussion and consideration. <br />No public funds shall be used in any support for or opposition to any measure or <br />legislation. <br />Nothing in these Guidelines is intended to discourage or inhibit individual <br />Councilmembers from expressing their individual support for or opposition to any ballot <br />measure or legislation. <br />Current City Council Policy <br />Guidelines Regarding Council Support for Ballot Measures in the San Leandro Councilmembers <br />Handbook were last updated in 2010. <br />City Council Committee Review and Action <br />This matter was discussed by the City Council Rules and Communications Committee on May <br />26, 2011, and consensus of the Committee was to forward it to the full Council for consideration <br />at the June 6 Council meeting. <br />Attachments <br />None. <br />CONCLUSION <br />It is recommended that the City Council adopt a resolution amending the Guidelines Regarding <br />Council Support For or Opposition to Ballot Measures to include Legislation, and incorporating <br />the amended Purpose and Guidelines into the Councilmembers Handbook. <br />
