Kell -Smith and Associates; Christian Valdes, Airport Noise Management Office; Francois Gallo The meeting was called to order at 9:05 a.m. 1. Report from San Leandro Unified School District Regarding Airport Noise Insulation Program Assistant Superintendent Leon Glaster from the San Leandro Unified School District reported that, as a result of the District's settlement agreement with the Port of Oakland, four schools are receiving new windows to insulate classrooms from aircraft noise. Mr. Glaster thanked the City for its efforts to include the schools in the settlement agreement process, resulting in the new windows. The project was started last May and is expected to be completed on September 20. The total cost for the project will be $4.8 million, or $1.2 million for each of the four schools. Councilmember Santos recommended the Board of Education extend its appreciation to NAACSL, since it was that organization that first brought to light the impacts of aircraft noise on students' ability to concentrate in the classrooms. Mr. Glaster will be sure NAACSL is recognized. Kathy Ornelas reported that the San Lorenzo Unified School District will undertake their window replacement project, also as a result of the settlement agreements, in the spring of 2007 when it begins other school improvements funded through a bond measure.
