2. Ground Traffic Study Status
During the Stakeholder Committee meetings conducted for the recently completed
Oakland International Airport Master Plan, committee members and city staff expressed
interest in understanding current traffic patterns in the vicinity of the Airport. As part of
the Master Plan, Port staff recommended and the Board of Port Commissioners
approved completing such a study.
The Ground Traffic study is intended to collect current information on ground traffic in the
vicinity of the airport, including traffic volumes, existing traffic patterns to and from the
airport, and the classification of vehicles (i.e., percentage of trucks, passenger cars,
etc.). The study will be conducted working with Stakeholder Committee members from
the Master Plan, traffic and planning staff from neighboring cities (i.e., San Leandro,
Alameda, and Oakland) and other agencies that may contribute to a traffic database
(e.g., Caltrans, CMA). A kick -off meeting was conducted on June 19 to discuss the
scope, data collection methodologies, locations preferred by the neighboring
communities, as well as the schedule and duration for the study. It is important to
recognize that this study is for mutual information of current activity and will not
determine "impacts" of current or proposed projects, nor to propose specific mitigations.
•
