Forum membership is based on aircraft flight patterns,
ongoing citizen concerns, and expressed interest. The purpose of the Forum is to facilitate
cooperation between the Airport and local communities and to provide a public forum to
.discuss, analyze and make recommendations to the Port's Executive Director about noise -
related issues at Oakland International Airport. Forum members include one elected
official and one citizen from eight neighboring cities, Alameda County representatives,
Marin County representatives, and the Port of Oakland's Director of Aviation. Meetings
• are held quarterly, on the third Wednesday of the month, at 6:30 p.m., at the Port of
Oakland Board Room, 530 Water Street, 2 Floor, Oakland.
A consultant who also provides administrative support and coordinates Forum activities
with the Airport Noise Management Office facilitates forum meetings. Agenda and minutes
are mailed out in accordance with Oakland's Sunshine Ordinance, which requires that
information be made available 10 days before each meeting. Although the Forum is not
subject to the Brown Act or Sunshine Ordinance, every effort is made to follow the noticing
requirements of the Sunshine Ordinance.
SOUTH FIELD STUDY GROUP (SFG)
This is a working group, chaired by the Airside Operations Manager at Oakland
International Airport. The Group consists of staff from the cities of Alameda and San
Leandro, residents from both communities and San Lorenzo, and Airport staff.
Representatives from the FAA, Federal Express and Southwest Airlines serve as advisors
•
to the group. The first meeting was held on November 12, 2002, with subsequent
meetings in December and January 2003. The working group was formed at the request
of the City of San Leandro to explore the potential for reducing aircraft noise from South
Field operations affecting residents living on the west side of San Leandro. This group is
patterned after the North Field Group, which has been highly effective. The group
schedules meetings "as- needed."
