This annual project provides for removal and replacement of damaged concrete sidewalk, driveway approaches, curbs and gutters and the installation of sidewalk curb ramps throughout the City. SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends approval of the plans and specifications and call for bids on the subject project. BACKGROUND Property owners are required by both the State Highway Code and San Leandro Municipal Code to maintain the sidewalks along their frontage. The City operates a sidewalk repair program, described in Title 8 of the San Leandro Administrative Code, which provides for the repair of sidewalk damage. When the City is made aware of damaged public sidewalks or driveways, staff examines the area to determine if repairs or replacement will be required. Minor defects are ground or patched at no (direct) charge to property owners. Larger defects that require removal and replacement of the concrete are also repaired under the program, but the property owner adjacent to such a defect must reimburse the City for the cost unless a City street tree is the cause. If a City tree is the cause, property owners only pay %2 the cost.
