SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION This project provides for reconstruction of the asphalt concrete pathways and replacement of the exercise equipment at the Marina Park par course. Staff recommends award of the construction contract to Blossom Valley Construction in the amount $402,776.00 for the subject project. BACKGROUND On March 2, 2009, the City received notice from the East Bay Regional Parks District (EBRPD) of our eligibility for $3,740,998 in Measure WW Park Bond funds. The funds are for the acquisition and development of neighborhood, community, and regional parks and recreation lands and facilities. The City asked citizens for their input on how they would like the money spent and chose to proceed with the top ten projects, and this project is one of these. The poor condition of the asphalt pavement, tripping hazards, and deteriorating par course exercise equipment were noted as features that the community would like to see improved with Measure WW funding. The asphalt at the par course is in a deteriorated condition. Patching is no longer effective and erosion of the path edge has created tripping hazards. The project will reconstruct the asphalt concrete pathways, construct concrete pads for new exercise equipment, and install new benches at intervals along the par course pathway. Some sections of the path will be realigned and re- graded to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and to take advantage of views of the San Francisco Bay and San Leandro Marina.
