FOR THE ANNUAL SIDEWALK PROGRAM 2011 -12, PROJECT NO. 2009.0241. This annual project provides for removal and replacement of damaged concrete sidewalks, driveway approaches, curbs and gutters and the installation of sidewalk curb ramps throughout the City. SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends award of the construction contract to JJR Construction Inc. in the amount $271,140.00 for the subject project. BACKGROUND Property owners are required by both the State Highway Code and San Leandro Municipal Code to maintain the sidewalks along their frontage. The City operates a sidewalk repair program, described in Title 8 of the San Leandro Administrative Code, which provides for the repair of sidewalk damage. When the City is made aware of damaged public sidewalks or driveways, staff examines the area to determine if repairs or replacement will be required. Minor defects are ground or patched at no (direct) charge to property owners. Larger defects that require removal and replacement of the concrete are also repaired under the program, but the property owner adjacent to such a defect must reimburse the City for the cost unless a City street tree is the cause. If a City tree is the cause, the property owners and the City each pay '/a the cost. Interim City Manager In addition to the repair of sidewalks, this project will include the installation of sidewalk curb ramps to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
