File Number: 12 -041 <br />3M Opticom Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP) <br />The above listed items were initially selected by competitive bid or on a performance basis. <br />These items are either integral components or accessory components compatible with the <br />existing equipment. Economy and efficiency support selecting these components through a <br />competitively awarded contract. In addition, standardizing these traffic signal system <br />components will allow the City and /or contractors to purchase these components directly from <br />vendors when it is advantageous to the City. It will also reduce routine maintenance <br />expenses, avoid extra training on new components, and decrease the inventory of <br />replacement parts. <br />Current Agency Policies <br />Continued development and expansion of the City's Advanced Traffic Management System <br />Previous Actions <br />On July 6, 2009 by Resolution No. 2009 -101, the City Council approved a contractual services <br />agreement to upgrade the City's Advanced Traffic Management System. <br />On November 7, 2011 by Resolution No. 2011 -186, the City Council approved plans and <br />specifications and calling for bids for the Bancroft Avenue and 136th Avenue Traffic Signal <br />Project. <br />Applicable General Plan Policies <br />Policy 16.03- Maintenance: Regularly maintain city streets and traffic control devices to ensure <br />that streets operate safely and efficiently. <br />Legal Analysis <br />City Legal staff was consulted and recommended obtaining Council approval for standardized <br />components for the traffic signal system. <br />PREPARED BY: Dean Hsiao, Traffic Operations Engineer <br />City of San Leandro Page 2 Printed on 211512012 <br />
